menu02Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Makes 8 cabbage rolls

Prep: 20 minutes
Cook: 40 minutes

Shopping List:

  • 160 ml or ⅔ cup water
  • 60 gr or ⅓ cup uncooked white rice
  • 8 cabbage leaves
  • 455 gr or 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 40 gr or ¼ cup chopped onion
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 6 gr or 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ gr or ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 300 gr or 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup

ChouMilanTO MAKE:

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring water to a boil.
  2. Add rice and stir.
  3. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Bring a large, wide saucepan of lightly salted water to a boil.
  5. Add cabbage leaves and cook for 2 to 4 minutes or until softened; drain.
  6. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, 1 cup cooked rice, onion, egg, salt and pepper, along with 2 tablespoons of tomato soup.
  7. Mix thoroughly.
  8. Divide the beef mixture evenly among the cabbage leaves.
  9. Roll and secure them with toothpicks or string.
  10. In a large skillet over medium heat, place the cabbage rolls and pour the remaining tomato soup over the top.
  11. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 40 minutes, stirring and basting with the liquid often.

Note: Be adventurous, add garlic, 15 ml or 1 tbsp of Worcester sauce, 15 ml or 1 tbsp of lemon juice and 10 gr or 1 tbsp of brown sugar to the meat mixture.

Makes 8 servings

Prep: 45 minutes
Cook: 1 hour 45 minutes

Shopping List:

  • 1360 gr or 3 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 70 gr or 9 tablespoons all-purpose flour, divided
  • 85 gr or 6 tablespoons butter, diced
  • 945 ml or 1 quart whole milk, or as needed


  1. Preheat oven to 220° C or 425° F.
  2. Grease a 23×32½ cm or 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Arrange one layer of potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle the potatoes with salt and pepper, 3 tablespoons flour, and 2 tablespoons butter.
  5. Repeat layering 2 more times, until all of potatoes have been used.
  6. Slowly pour milk over the potatoes until the dish is ¾ full of milk.
  7. Bake until the milk comes to a boil [check after 15 minutes].
  8. Then reduce heat to 190° C or 375° F and bake until potatoes are tender, 45 to 60 minutes more.

Note: Yes, there’s no cheese in it!

An Addicting Salad – Creamy Broccoli Slaw

Makes 6 servings

Prep: 20 minutes
Cook: 5 minutes

  • 235 ml or 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 60 ml or ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 25 gr or 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • ⅓ gr or ⅛ teaspoon celery seed
  • 85 gr or 1 (3 ounce) package Oriental-flavored ramen noodles, broken into small pieces
  • 15 ml or 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 15 ml or 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 25 gr or ¼ cup slivered almonds
  • 340 gr or 1 (12 ounce) package broccoli cole slaw mix
  • 80 gr or ½ cup chopped onion
  • 35 gr or ¼ cup unsalted sunflower seeds


  1. Mix mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, celery seed, and ramen noodle seasoning packet in a bowl; chill in refrigerator.
  2. Heat olive oil and sesame oil in a skillet over medium heat; cook and stir ramen noodles and almonds until toasted, stirring frequently, 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and cool.
  4. Combine ramen noodles, almonds, broccoli cole slaw mix, onion, sunflower seeds, and dressing in a bowl; stir to coat.

Note: Add some dried cranberries, or crumbled bacon.
