Today we’re going to Noordermarkt for organic mushrooms. Natascha Rothengatter of Portabella Paddestoelen [the last word is Dutch for mushrooms] has a stall there on Saturday where she sells only the best.
The fresh, organically farmed and wild mushrooms are available all year round from the stall to obtain. For wild mushrooms and truffles, that availability is linked to the season of course. They’re expecting the spring truffles soon! The cultivated mushrooms are from the Netherlands.
You won’t find here white button mushrooms, those are available at supermarkets and grocers. But Cantharelles, Oyster mushrooms in gray, yellow or pink, shiitake, Nameco, Pompom Blanc, Porcini and of course Portabella’s to name a few are available.
On Saturday you can find her and her organic produce on Noordermarkt, opposite of Boomstraat [and café Hegeraad, my regular coffee stop]. On Lindengracht there’s a regular market on Saturday btw.
This calls for a mushroom recipe next Thursday, of course.
