All this talk of chocolate is making me drool! I love good chocolate, and Amsterdam has some of the best chocolate in the world! My husband was on a business trip in Belgium and happened to go to the Netherlands, to one of the chocolate stores there. He brought some home to me, and it was the best stuff I’d ever tasted. Amazing!

I had both shots (winter flu and swine flu) earlier this week, and had the same symptoms (fever, chills, sore arm and throbing headache) for the past few days. However those symptoms are just your body’s way of dealing with what it thinks is an infection, as your immune system reacts to the viral proteins in the vaccine (which is what you want).

Fortunately, two days later and I’m fine, hopefully you are too.

I like seeing you write about St. Martin. Why don’t the white kids sing the songs and go begging anymore?

Peter says: Maybe this year they went to another part of this neighbourhood. After the Turkish and Moroccan kids, I had another hoard from the Antilles and Surinam. Kids are kids, I still remember the time we went from door to door, instead of sweets we got apples or clementinas. [No razorblades in sight!]

Where we used to live, for our American holiday of Hallowe’en, we used to get over 200 trick-or-treaters. We would usually have to turn out the porch light (the signal of our participation as candy givers) because we had run out of candy. In our new neighborhood, we only get a tenth of that number.

Ever since experiencing what you have experienced with the painful arm, chills and other symptoms, I have not gotten a yearly flu shot. I used to think that it was a shot just to make me sick. So I have been fortunate the last few decades. Hope you’re feeling better!

The smell of good chocolate is like the smell of good coffee brewing to me. However, as a child in the 1950’s, I was able to tour the actual Hershey factory. (One can no longer do that.) There were parts of the tour in which the smell of the particular process was not so appealing.

I love beets and used to grow them in our gardens. My mother used to serve beet tops so I can attest to the truth of your last statement. I have not had the tops in ages since my own family does not care for them. I’m glad that at least they like beets (the “roots”).

I loved playing with my friends’ Lego’s as a child, but never had any myself, so I bought them for my sons when they were children so that I could still have an excuse to play with them.

I agree with you entirely on your favorite activity in gym class!

…and with your clarification on the snack… yes, I know Wasa bread! They sell it in our grocery stores here. It is good.
