Best Of Amsterdam #28 – Buttons

After all that fabric of the last two weeks you need something as common as a button to close your outfit. Okay, a zipper could do the trick but you can buy those everywhere. Buttons, and especially artful buttons, can only be bought at a small amount of shops, one of the best known in Amsterdam is De Knopenwinkel [the Button shop].

Lasercut mother-of-pearl, handmade and handpainted ones, buttons made of bone, wood, metal, cristal, you name it and they sell it, as long as it’s a button. Even when you’re looking for buttons from the 30′s to the 90′s.

  1. When I was a boy, my mother did a lot of sewing at her machine. While she sewed, I sat on the floor and played with the buttons she kept in a large tin. These would be great additions!

now this is a store for me! I am tired of using the same sort of buttons. When I get around to making my “Dutch” shirt from the fabric you gave me, I should obtain buttons from this place, to make it even more special.
